Speech Therapy at Durri

A speech therapist or “Speechie” can help children who are having difficulty learning how to communicate. These difficulties can include

  •  Difficulty understanding instructions
  •  Not saying many words
  •  Difficulty making sentences
  •  Difficulty having conversations and playing
  •  Speech is hard to understand
  •  Mixes up or leaves out sounds
  •  Husky or Hoarse sounding voice
  •  Stuttering
  •  Poor Listening skills
  • Difficulty with school and learning to read and spell

Speech Therapy at Durri can help toddlers and preschoolers with their family as well as school aged children at school.

Children usually enjoy visiting Speech Pathology; they will get to play games and should have fun.

Your child’s individual needs are considered, and different treatment options may be offered, depending on what will help your child.

Support for preschool children involves a carer and the child attending regular sessions with the Speech Pathologist. Older children may receive visits at school.

We will play games and do exercises that will help your child to learn to talk and understand.

You are very important!

Many Carers are not sure when to ask for help. If you are worried, seek help as soon as possible. This can make a big difference.

Speech therapy can really help a child learn to talk and understand. But Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles are the most important people in helping a child learn to talk.

What Can I Do?

  • Make sure your child gets to all appointments
  • Get involved in the therapy games
  • Practice at home

Families are the best people to help a child learn to talk.  Ask how you can help!

To access the speech pathology service, see your GP at Durri ACMS for a health assessment or GP management plan for a referral.
